President’s and Vice President’s Report- Cheryl Camire & Katie Denham
Cheryl Camire – PTG President
• Cheryl passed out a Calendar of Events to everyone. This lists the events that will be going on throughout the school year.
• We are working hard to be more organized but we need a bit more space in the process. We have purchased a filing cabinet that will be stored in the teacher's room with any supplies the PTG may need. We can also store past school years minutes, agendas, etc in the file cabinet so that everyone can see what we have done in the past. We also have a storage closet down in the basement where we are keeping the bigger items we use.
• The Cherrydale fundraiser is under way. All of the teachers and students received a packet with catalogs and order forms. This is our largest fundraiser, so we hope to at least match last year's profit of $4,500.00. Please take a minute to look at the catalog and support our organization. Teachers can receive supplies for their class if a certain percentage of their class participates.
So remind the kids to go out and sell not only for the awesome products but also for all the awesome things his or her classroom could receive.
Katie Denham – PTG Vice-President
The PTG bulletin board is being changes. It has been empty for over a month. We will keep basic items on there and it will show what we do each month.
We are starting a thank-you note chain. Volunteers are needed to sign up for a month to send at least 4 thank you notes to a community member who they see volunteering or helping out. This will help us to recognize people who devote their time to our kids and our community. Recognition is the biggest part and everyone enjoys and appreciates being told that they are appreciated.
Principal's Report – Kyle Rhoads
Thank you Katie for the great idea for the Thank you notes and for updating the bulletin board.
Mid October, the mid-trimester reports will be going home. This will be the first year of a school wide trimester schedule.
Thank you to Rosemary Dionne for signing up to be the volunteer coordinator for the school.
Teacher Representative – Tracy Scully - A reminder to all teachers that any request for classroom supplies that you would like the PTG to consider purchasing need to go through Tracy first. Dr. Rhoads will review all requests before presenting it to the group.
Brooke De Forte – Thank you for all you do as a group. It is appreciated.
Jaclyn Nutter – Thank you for all you do and thanks for the backpacks from last year. They are off to a good start and they will be organized a bit more and replenished as needed. People are enjoying them.
Guy Labranche – Thank you for all you do as a group. Thank you for all the donations for the 6th grade camping trip. I have a stack of volunteer sheets for the camping trip to sign up to help anytime. The Camping trip is September 28 through 30th. We are looking for volunteers to cook meals, chaperones to guide groups, and people who are willing to present/share a unique skill. (Rosemary mentioned how much fun it is to volunteer during those 3 days.) So if you would like to help out, fill out a form.
Marilyn Young - Thank you for all you do. You are all appreciated.
Theresa MacDonald – Thanks for everything. This PTG is very visible. Everyone knows what is going on. It is great to see all the information going home also.
Stephanie Paine – Thank you for all you do. I am very impressed with all the activities the PTG does for fund-raising. Last year the Halloween party and Holiday Bazaar were GREAT. Look forward to it again.
OPEN HOUSE/SPAGHETTI DINNER – A family Spaghetti Dinner will be held before the Open House on Tuesday, September 27th at 5:30PM! This will be a way to get parents more involved with the community and the school. Get the family together before the open house and not have to worry about running home, cooking and then coming to the open house. Everything will be all done so all the families have to do is come from work, have dinner, spend time with the kids and stay for the open house. We need volunteers to help prepare the meal and clean up. Dessert items are also needed for that evening. The cafeteria employees will need to be paid for time beyond their school contracts. A service contract will need to be drawn up. The Café fee is $50.00. Cheryl made a motion to pay the Café help the $50.00. Stacy Howes seconded the motion. All were in favor. Open House starts at 7:00PM.
HALLOWEEN PARTY – The set date for the Halloween Party is Friday October 28th. We are looking for someone to organize the party. The first organization meeting will be Tuesday, October 4th at 6:30pm. We would like to invite Brian Beeler to come on behalf of the custodial staff. Cheryl will contact him.
HOLIDAY BAZAAR - We need to start thinking about items to sell for the Holiday Bazaar. If you see inexpensive items when you are out shopping keep your receipts, and we will reimburse you. (Especially dad gifts and pet gifts.) We also need items for OLDER SIBLINGS. We need HELP FROM EVERYONE with the shopping. A meeting for the Bazaar Committee will be set at the October PTG meeting.
SIGN UP LIST FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS - It is a good idea to have a representative from the PTG to attend a school board meeting each month. This way we can get a better idea of what goes on and see if there is anything that can help the PTG. Andrea Berry made a sign up sheet and passed it around and members filled out the month or months they would like to attend. The School Board meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at the Acton School in the Cafeteria. Andrea will come back next month with the sheet filled out and make sure there are reminders to those who will attend meetings.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL - We need to check on storage space for the ice cream.
We have 20 containers of ice cream that need a storage space and if we cannot find the space, we will have to forfeit the donation. This money goes to the campership fund, which was able to send 20 kids to camp last year, so it would be a shame to lose this fundraiser. Anyone with any ideas please let someone from the PTG know as soon as possible.
PTG WEBSITE – The PTG Website is down right now. Mike Corey will be working on it and Cheryl and Katie will see him about how to keep it updated and learn more about the site. We are hoping to get it back up ASAP.
VOLUNTEER UPDATE – We would like to contact Lorraine Yeaton about advertising for the Open House dinner.
FUNDRAISING UPDATE – The Scrapbooking Fundraiser Meeting is Monday, September 19th at 7:00PM at the Elementary School in the Library. The discussions will be about organizing, door prizes, food, etc. Lots of involvement is needed and this can be a BIG fundraiser for the school. This big event will be taking place on Saturday, April 8th from 9:00AM-6:00PM at the Nason Gym in Springvale.
We checked on the pizza party reward after collecting money for the Pennies for Playground Fund Raiser. We will need to talk to Brian Beeler more about this since it is on school time and it is pizza and may not be acceptable due to the schools nutrition requirements. Brian would like to set up a committee and talk more about this.
Should we continue pursuing the purchase of 25 Smitty's tickets with Smitty's giving us 25 as a donation for a total of 50 tickets? This would be prizes for kids after certain events. It will be looked into more.
Land's End has a fundraising benefit for schools. Someone needs to look into this in order to sign up Acton School
High School students who need community service hours are welcome to help at our functions.
Nothing this month.
