Meeting was called to order at 6:50 with welcome and introductions.
Acceptance of Secretary’s report typed by Fran Bodkin and prepared by Katie Denham
Acceptance of Treasurer’s Report prepared by Elise Miller
Proposal – consider not accepting checks for Holiday Bazaar $4.00 fee secondary to risk of returned checks, may need to consider ways to communicate to families who do not have funds to shop
Secretary Position – Stacey Singleton prefers to decline nomination for secretary’s position and would feel more comfortable working with fundraising
Cheryl Camire will assist with secretary’s position for the remainder of the school year. Genie and Fran will email minutes to Cheryl who will distribute. Cheryl will also assist with distributing the agenda and flyers to go home with students.
Parent-Faculty Basketball Game – event is scheduled for 2/9/07
Working to get staff together for faculty team, goal is to get 10 team members; concerns were voiced that this event may be becoming too competitive when the intention is to organize a fun community event to raise funds for PTG sports fund
Kyle will approve of faculty team members
Parameters: part and full time faculty/staff and significant other, no adult children of staff; spirit of the event is to support the children in the school and not to win at all costs, poll members from both teams for suggestions to make this the fun event it is meant to be!
Potential softball or volleyball event for the spring
Genie to forward basketball rooster to the PTG board
Awards: Dennett – volunteer recommendation for the school
Squire – community member

Cheryl will look for awards at Sports Stop or Woodman’s
Raffles will be managed by fundraising (Stacy Howes) Rosemary has volunteers to assist with raffles. Stacy will organize raffle items.
There will be officials for the game. Officials will be given Smitty’s tickets in thanks for their volunteer time

Vice President’s Report:
No new business to report
Request for approximately $100 for flowers to recognize staff. PTG vote agrees to fund flowers.
No school Friday or Monday
Genie Stevenson: Jars have been distributed for Pennies for Playground and will be collected at the end of the week. Dr. Rhoads will announce for students to bring pennies to Mrs. Stevenson’s room. Board members will collect at the end of the week and bring to Kennebunk Savings Bank in Kennebunk for sorting/exchanging. Money will be promptly delivered to Elise and teacher totals will be forwarded to Genie who will send email blast to staff regarding ongoing totals. A decision was made to extend the penny collection for an additional week as there was a late start to this fundraiser.
Ms. Paine: Thanks the PTG for work in the school and with the students. Students particularly enjoy the holiday bazaar and Halloween party.
Ms. Calvo: Also thanks the PTG for contributions to the school. May leave tables pushed together for Tuesday morning meeting.
Rosemary reported that Mr. LaBranche thanked the PTG for Treats for Teachers which he posted in the Acton Community section of the Observer
Calendars for Campership – Review of decision to donate a lump sum to YMCA with a flyer to go home for parents to directly contact the YMCA to apply for the program and to access funds. Proposal is for $2,000 donation. Discussion was tabled and will be discussed and voted on during next month’s meeting.
Scrappin’ for Schools: This event has been tabled for the year and this event will become bi-annual with meetings to be scheduled for late spring/early summer for next year’s event.
Yankee Candles: In light of postponing Scrappin’ for School, this event will be explored for interest. Katie has received information for this event and will bring for review at next month’s meeting.
Holiday Bazaar: Stacy obtained 8 new pre-lit trees for next year’s event! Old trees will be disposed of.
Cheryl recognized the great work organizing the ice cream social at the last minute. Official thank you notes to go to Shain’s and Bonanza. Stacy to notify to add a thank you note to the community column in the Observer.
Other thank you note suggestions: Darren for being Santa, Rosemary to forward Fran a list for volunteers to receive thanks. Thank you notes also to be written for student counsel and 8th graders for assisting with the Holiday Bazaar.
Holiday Bazaar: Worked more smoothly with more teachers wrapping in the class room. The Santa suit is at Rosemary’s house. PTG is exploring method to reimburse Darren and Kelly for the Santa suit. It was suggested that older grades be encouraged to wrap in their classrooms allowing the younger students to access volunteers for wrapping. This may also decrease behaviors of older students with unstructured time. Teachers need to supervise students and respond to behavior issues.
Parent/Faculty Game: volunteers are being organized
Volunteer Appreciation Week: Occurs in April, can discuss more at next meeting.
Mats are being managed by Brian Beeler secondary to a recent student injury. This is not a PTG issue. The issue of dirt on gym floors setting up a dangerous situation was also discussed, which is also not a PTG issue, but a school issue which parents should discuss with Mr. Beeler. Anti-skid cleaner was also used on the gym floor during school break.
Playground suggestions were introduced including development of field play area as it is currently open, sandy space. This issue will be discussed in future meetings. Basketball backboards need to be painted due to graffiti. Other issues introduced include a space protected by a shelter from wind or shade (i.e. gazebo, shed, etc.)
Special Person Lunch: this has been done in the past and there is interest to organize again. This requires two volunteers. Kyle will work on a date and will notify Rosemary who will organize volunteers.
Rosemary brought article from PTO magazine to the group’s attention and will distribute article.
Box Tops are now being given to Odyssey of the Mind, teachers who have questions should be directed to Pat Reeves.
Dr. Rhoads will help us with website as issues arrive
